Israeli born redhead supermodel Maayan Keret lit up the fashion runways of top designers including Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Lacroix in the 1990's. Lucky for us she is back in full force via Verbmodels, and in addition to her gorgeous red tresses she's also bringing along an insatiable lust for life, motherhood, modeling, and a slew of new adventures coming her way. Best of all Maayan has graciously answered some of our most pressing redhead questions!...
What was it like growing up in Israel as a natural redhead?
It wasn't easy... as a child lots of kids called me in different names like "Giraffe" since I was too tall, freckled & redhead, but as I was a teenager I found the people who liked my colour & started to understand that being special is something I like & it fits me. Also growing up in a sunny country with a very pale skin wasn't a bingo, I get burned for a few times & couldn't stay in the sun too long as the other kids.
Are there certain colors you are drawn to which make you feel fabulous?
I like all the colours, I wear even pink & orange. I think everything can fit, but the best for me is green or red.
Please share with us some of your memories from your time with legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent.
Yves Saint Laurent- when I worked with him he was already not in his best... but I could see his desire through his eyes. He had a dog with him all the time, he was very quiet & concentrated on the clothes. We have never spoken so much but we have had some magic moments together.
Red hair and curls is a fierce combination. Which products do you use to keep your hair looking gorgeous?
I try to keep it as natural I can, I use moisture cream for my hair every day which I change every few months so that way It works better. During Winter time I put olive oil for two hours, sometimes.
How has working in the fashion world influenced your personal style and how you dress in the morning?
I've learned a lot from the fashion people, it gave me a lot of ideas & interest. I change my style, sometimes I just wear jeans or black pants & a simple shirt. People can always see what I'm going through in my personal life in the way I dress.
You're a mother, artist, writer, producer, traveler, and lecturer. What's your advice to other women who want to find balance in their personal and creative lives?
I think there are few important things for me - one is to plan my time efficiency so that I can do all different things (& not to be lazy). Second is to let myself always be open to different & new things, to ask myself questions all the time so I can see what I really want to do now, not be afraid of changes & not to think of what other people think or what it looks like.

Vogue Australia April 2011 Cover: Anja Rubik
Two days ago, I posted parts of the gorgeous editorial, Edge of Forever, featured in the April issue of Vogue Australia. The cover of the same issue is just as lovely. I really like the luxury bohemian, 70s vibe that I get from looking at Anja Rubik - a perfect look for summer. Also, I love the use of golden accessories during the summer. It looks fabulous together with tanned skin.
In an interview inside the magazine, Anja talks about her own personal style: "I don't put any rules to my style; I think fashion is something you should play with...even if you make a mistake it's okay, it's only fashion." Vogue Australia has also gotten her style tips for the various seasons: "For summer, her look leans towards hippie luxe, with long skirts, waisted belts, scarfs and cotton T-shirts, while in the winter she builds a rock'n'roll wardrobe around her favourite Les Chiffoniers leather pants. Refreshingly, she works a high-low mix of labels, teaming Isabel Marant and Dries Van Noten with gems from H&M."

Chantal Stafford-Abbott Reaches The Top
I can't tell you how excited I was to meet Quebec-born model Chantal Stafford-Abbott in NYC last year. A refreshingly down to earth vision of gorgeous red hair and freckles, the beautiful 18 year-old Stafford-Abbott is a powerhouse model who has charged the global runways of Fashion Week, and has featured regularly in numerous fashion campaigns and editorials since she first came onto the fashion scene just two years ago. The blue-eyed statuesque stunner, who also happens to be extremely friendly and candid, is well on her way to reaching the top of the fashion heights, and I was only too delighted when Ms. Stafford-Abbott took some time out of her globe-trotting schedule to tell RedPoppy why she is never too far from a climbing wall, and why Redheads are here to stay...
RP- Please describe the first time you became aware of the alluring beauty and power of your red hair.
CSA: When a lady came up to me on the street begging for me to sell her my hair.
RP- Growing up were there any redhead 'Rules' you felt the need to follow?
CSA: The only rule I had to follow religiously was to keep myself in the shade, wear ridiculously (ugly) huge hats to cover my face, and long sleeve shirts even when it was really hot outside! Sunscreen was my number one friend unfortunately. But I thank my mom for making me do it!
RP- What is your go-to lip color?
CSA: ROUGE!
RP- The fashion industry is finally starting to recognize 'unique' beauty on its catwalks and modeling campaigns. Tell us your experience as a redhead in the modeling world.
CSA: Being a redhead can sometimes be a disadvantage because our hair doesn't always fit the look. But then again you stand out from everyone else and that's usually what clients look for! I can definitely see a trend in the past years; gingers rule! :)
RP- Which colors take up the most space in your closet?
CSA: Greens and Blues.
RP- You've walked the runways for many fabulous designers including Marc Jacobs and Marchesa. What was it like meeting some of your favorite designers for the first time?
CSA: Meeting important designers can be a little bit nerve-racking at first I won't lie. I'm so lucky that I got to work with such talented people in the industry. It's amazing to see the work in process.
RP- What are some of your interests aside from modeling?
CSA: Wherever I go I always make sure to bring a journal with me. I love to write, draw and paint. I also love to be active. My parents are both gym teachers and own a rock climbing company. I'm never too far from a climbing wall, because my parents are so obsessed with the sport they had one built in our basement!!! NUTS!
RP- Freckles or Freckle free?
CSA: More like FRECKLE. I have so many, they are starting to join into one huge one!

Newsflash: MODELS ARE WAY TOO FUCKING SKINNY.

These photos Life Mag just posted of models at Fashion Week make me want to vomit. Fitting, no? Thin is always going to be in. I can deal with that. But your spine shouldn't be visible from the outside of your body. In any other universe, people who look like this "naturally" (and very few of these girls look like this naturally -- girls starving themselves in the modeling industry is an open secret) would be trying to GAIN weight. It's depressing and horrible that girls are celebrated for looking like they were just released from a prison camp.
Life kept it classy, by the way, shooting models "eating," but "just not a lot."
No wonder models have been fainting on the job.
I'm confident no designers actually read this blog, but just in case...
THE AVERAGE AMERICAN WOMAN WEIGHS AROUND 140 POUNDS. MOST OF THE WOMEN WILL BUY YOUR CLOTHES ARE NOT SAMPLE SIZES. STOP DESIGNING CLOTHING FOR SKELETONS AND REINFORCING THE IDEA THAT REAL WOMEN ARE SUPPOSED TO LOOK HOLLOWED-EYED BAGS OF BONES.
